The
word Tuxpan comes from the Nahuatl and means "Place of
rabbits". It is located 28 kilometers 17.4 miles) from
Zitacuaro and has a wonderful warm weather. Its main tourist
attractions are the Parish of Apostle Santiago, which was built
in the XVII century, ordered by the third Countess of Miravalle.
The interior of the Parish has a painting of great dimensions
entitled "Souls in pain" from the author Cristobal
de Villalpando. This place is distinguished for the elaboration
of ates (Candy made of fruit) and jellies.
