5 minutes from Zitacuaro

By the road to Huetamo you will find San Francisco, a town that owns one of the oldest churches in the East of Michoacan. It was built by the Franciscan Friars between 1535 and 1550. Next to the church there is a monastery used as a base to build the rest of the Franciscan churches in this region. During some restore works performed, they found the original altar from the XVI century, some tombs of Franciscan Friars buried in the church and an atrium Cross from 1540 made of stone in an European style and craved on the sides, as well as two bells, one from 1635 and the other from 1624 that belonged to the Confraternity of the Good Friday Procession.
