3 kilometers from Zamora

Zamora and Jacona are separated by the "Duero" River and are united by a beautiful 2 kilometer treed roadway. Traces of a culture of 3500 years before Christ have been found because of the discovery of some tombs in the zone known as the "Opeño" located in the municipal of Jacona. The archaeologists that have studied this remote location of Michoacan consider it as the oldest culture of Mesoamerica. In the city of Jacona, Augustinian friars built a temple and a convent in 1555, buildings which are still conserved in the main area of "Villa de las Flores" and are the see of the Virgin of Hope, who was the first to be crowned in America and patron saint of the diocese. The tourist must visit Lake Orandino, place visited for swimming and for ridding on small boats. Jacon has many water springs: Verduzco dam that gives origin to the Celio River, which is an affluent of the Duero River, "El Bosque", "La Viga Alta", "La Estancia", and "El Santo Entierro", reasons why it also has spacious bathing resorts.
