
The
name Zacan comes from the Purepecha language and it means "stony";
it is known as "stony place". It is located in the
Volcanic Transversal Mountain Range, locally known as Meseta
Purepecha and Uruapan Mountain Range. For centuries Zacan had
remained relatively isolated from the near cities.
Located
on the mountain side of the Paricutin, it was one of the towns
affected by the volcano eruption in 1943.
