kilometers from Uruapan
San Juan Parangaricutiro was abandoned on May 10th,1944because
of the eruption of the Paricutin Volcano.
The
inhabitants set out on a 33km. walk taking with them their Patron
Saint, the Lord of the Miracles, a beautiful cane paste structure,
looking for new destinies, on May 12th,1944 they arrived to
the Ex-hacienda of “Los Conejos” where they decided
to establish the new town of San Juan Nuevo Parangaricutiro.
