37
kilometers from Uruapan
This picturesque town was founded before the conquest;. It is
one of the few places of the Sierra de Michoacan that has conserved
its original aspect, with wooden houses (trojes) and shingled
roofs. In this place you find the Hospital's chapel, as well
as the Parish Temple of Santiago Apostol of Moorish style, from
the mid XVI century; with an atrium cross of stone, a beautiful
piece of work with the unmistakable mark of the indigenous hands.
There you also find the tourist center of Angahuan. Besides
offering restaurant services, cabins, camping areas, and a graphic
museum space, it has the attraction of being located at a very
short distance from the Volcano Paricutin, and from the ruins
of the town of San Juan Parangaricutiro, buried beneath lava.
From there you can set out on horseback rides up to the volcano
zone.
