This
city is considered as the first settlement of the Purepecha
race, who later would populate all of what today is Michoacan,
part of Guanajuato and Queretaro.
During
the Colony, the Spaniards constituted it into the Republic of
Indians and was handed in "encomienda" to Hernando
Jerez. Zacapu was center of important battles during the War
of Independence.
At
the present time, it is a renown agriculture, commercial and
industrial center.
