24 kilometers from Patzcuaro

The first insurrection due to the pronunciation of Francisco I. Madero occurred in this town. It was headed by Salvador Escalante, who acted as sub-prefect of the region, reason for which many people supported the cause. Salvador Escalante died in combat during the Revolution.

Its craftsmen are worldwide known because of the skill and ability to elaborate beautiful objects of hammered copper.

One of its most representative characters was Pito Perez, who forms part of the Mexican folklore history.

The Zirahuen Lake is located barely 12 kilometers from this town, surrounded by pine trees and deep blue colored water. The paved roadway that sets off from Santa Clara del Cobre is a magnificent option for the lovers of Nature.
