A
town of pre-Hispanic foundation, that constituted an obligated
pass from the capital of the purepechas (Tzintzuntzan) to the
ceremonial center of Zacapu.
During
the XIX century it was an important commercial center, due to
being an obligated pass for the occident of the country.
The
locality of Santa Fe de la Laguna, a pre-Hispanic town that
conserves the purity and the costumes of the Purepecha race,
is found in Quiroga. The famous hospital-town founded by Don
Vasco de Quiroga functioned in this place.
